My Chicken Gang

Here is a group shot of my girls crossing the creek.

Dark Cornish taking a dip.

My alpha rooster Leghorn/Game, Junior, watching over the next generation.

Very sweet and watchful rooster to have. We eat the bad roosters. I started out with 19 roosters this fall and 5 made the cut to live on the farm. The rest have been sold or in my freezer.

Junior and his best hen. Junior is going on 4 years now and holding his own.

Foxy Spring

As the sun was setting I was waiting for friends to arrive. I heard nothing but saw a flash of orange.

This fox passed 25 ft away from me pass me and up the pond to drink.

I made some sounds before it finally looked up at me.

The fox was more interested in something in the woods than me. Eventually I called my dog to go after it and the chase began. The fox is the master of the chase and it escaped to taunt another day.

Snow Bunnies

Moe is finally getting to stretch his legs after a 3 week  indoor confinement thanks to the snow.

Larry is happy to be out of her cage.

Curly, Larry and Moe face off in the straw.

Moe and Curly tunnel under the straw.

Moe is hiding well.

Curly is conflicted.

Moe and Zilla have a discussion.

Muddy Mid March

Time to burn off the sidewalk to clear it.

Fun on the farm at dusk

Young deer came by for a visit.

Breeding season for the local salamanders.

I painted my nails to match the mud on the farm.

Yup, good match for the mud.

Melting March

This was last week at my farm. This is ice and sleet all over our friends truck. He got home ok but was a rough drive.

Almost 6 more inches fell over the 9 previously.

Yup it was piling up even on the lamp.

Finally a warm up and melting snow. Enough  melted to put my rabbits outside in it.

Melon- out.

Melon and Poppy- out.

Yep, Poppy is still out.

Daisy, out.

No, wait she is awake. But soon drifts off to out again.

To Snow you say

The deck is full.

My truck is full.

Free snow delivery, yeah that is full too.

He has the right idea, hibernation.

Keeping my eyes safe in the blinding white

Ducks and wild birds at breakfast

The view from the back 40.

Snowy February

Osa comes along for chores

Some white stairs.

Zilla wants to play in the snow.

My ducks having a duck-scussion about all this white stuff.

Nope, too cold to be a chicken.

My herd covered in ice and snow.

Checking on the hay for the horses.

Double jacket and double hood kinds of day on the farm.

Here there be Snow

It has been super cold and it has snowed, a lot. It is almost a foot deep and I have 3 foot drifts around the farm. I am staying home and off the roads. Inside I have to wood stove going and pets dozing in the warmth. Coco cooling off on my piano.

Coco claims the highest saddle in the saddle tree hers alone.

Oza and Melon have a discussions about who gets what blanket in the house. Osa is getting older and likes to come in and enjoy the heat. Zilla prefers to cold and outside. Melons prefers all dogs stay outside.

This is just one day of snow in the Ozarks.
