Cotton Tree
Yesterday, we let our female cat, Cotton, outside at night to get out her aggression. She is fixed and a bit dominant to the other cats in the house. I go out at night to check on her and she has treed herself. I called and coaxed with cat food and our 2 males helped, no go; she was not moving from that 15ft limb. I decided to go back to bed and deal with her in the morning. At about 3:30am my husband wakes me up with that cat successfully rescued from the tree. He climbed up the ladder in the dark and got her out the tree. She had gone down to a lower branch. Cotton then stayed with Alan all night long, in bed and at his feet in the office. He is her hero, me, not so much.

Blue Me Away
I made this quilt 2 years ago for a young woman going to college. She is now about a year away from graduating and getting her Ag degree. This quilt is still vibrant and doing well. So worth buying high quality fabrics, washing to test for fugitive dyes and then using them in a quilt.

Re-Chaired
Over the weekend we stopped at a huge yard sale of a friend. They go to auctions and buy up what is not sold. So a lot of chairs, file cabinets, desks and electronics. I tried many of the office chairs they had outside. I have my husbands old one and it was not floating my boat. This one came with tools under the seat and was easy to take apart. The wheels and stuffing were good and it had no weird smells from storage.
There was a large one with red peeling vinyl that was in good shape but needed re-upholstering. I have a huge stash of car upholstery scraps I picked up for free years ago. I had been using the scraps for wrapping antique furniture we ship.
This time I culled the tan and brown scraps and sewed them up for a new seat and back for the chair. I had to use corn starch to slip the new fabric over the old vinyl. I them used teddy bear faux fur for the arm rests- luxurious! So now I have a nice new to me comfy office chair that matches my used rug. I love the color and the textures of the fabrics. It is like sitting on a giant teddy bear. Every office chair should be this fun to sit in.
Foster Kitten at 7 weeks
Our tiny orphan silver tabby male is growing fast.
He gets his first kitten shots next week. Soon I will find him a new home.
He is off the bottles and now eating solid foods.
We do not name our foster kittens so we do not get too attached. Or if we do we call them awful nicknames- this one is Nutsack. It makes it easier to give them new homes.

Busy September
The foster kitten we named "Nutsack" so we do not fall in love with him. He is now 5 weeks old, litter trained and always eating. He eats more than previous litters of 6! He has been wormed and is growing well. He did the stairs today all the way down to the litter box area but got stuck going up and meowed for help.
Pumpkins, squash, tomatillo, tomato and more.
All kinds of tomatillo. Next year, I will plant the larger kind. These are small and take more to make something with. Lots of peeling for small amount.
Prometheus moth abound at night in the Ozarks. Note: not my photo but better)
Staghorn Sumac makes the bees happy.
I have been canning all spring and summer long. Since it is only 2 of us I find the half pints the best size for us. Quart jars for soups and storing but the pints or half pints for meals. I have been given jars and picked up some at auctions. I did not realize I had so many in our garage. I find the older jars heavier and less prone to breaking. I am rough on my jars. But they always come through and are reusable year after year. Being a city girl all this canning stuff was new to me. Cooking from scratch was tough to learn. But thanks to listening to people who cook well and grow their own I learned a ton. How to plant what I like, grow and cook what I love, and save the good stuff for winter.

Colors of my Ozarks World
These photos were taken by the photographer Oscar Robertson. You can find him on Facebook here:
He captures the wonderful color of the sunsets here in Missouri.
Discern Lucerne
A mystery town painting. This is a painting a friend of mine was given. The town was somewhere in Europe painted around the 1960's? It has some unique crudely painted landmarks. I am trying to figure out what town he painted. Any ideas?
I found this one of Lucerne, Switzerland.
Mad Moon
This is the foster kitten after a blowout. Given a warm bath and dried off.
He is not too pleased with me.
My husband drove a friend over to see the eclipse in East Missouri, I stayed home to watch the animals. Pretty quiet on the farm.
Green Sauce
I finally harvested enough tomatillo to make Salsa Verde.
It was great and fast once I had all the stuff set up. Hot water bath for the half pints.
It came out hot and sweet from the tomatillo and onions used, no sugar added. The garlic and hot peppers were grown at a neighbors garden. The rest of the stuff was from my farm. Thanks to tilling and the bees this year has been a great harvest of veggies.
Foster Kitten Progress Late August.
Among my daily farm chores of horses, dogs, rabbits and veggie gardening I have the foster kitten, week three. No more late night feedings. He is down to 4 times a day with solid food provided.
He is growing well and uses the litter pan. He uses any litter pan even the ones that are for my cats. My herd is not too happy about this but it works.
He is eating solid food when he feels like it. Still prefers the bottle but teeth are present. The watermelon was a gift from a neighbor.
He is playing around my early harvested pumpkins.
He is still bow legged but is very active. He will get wormed this week.

August Foster Kitten
Yesterday a friend posted on facebook she needed help. A kitten was found in the walls of an office, mama cat moved the kittens, this one was left behind. Three days had passed and the mama never came back for this kitten.
So I called her and picked up the orphan. We no longer have a shelter in our county, it closed. I still have all the supplies and the rescuer gave me fresh KMR. The kitten survived the night and feedings every 2-3 hours. It has teeth emerging and will soon be eating solid food. Looks to be a tiny 3 week old or so.
My own cats are not liking this new house guest. They will have none of it. Even though most of there were this tiny and orphaned once. I will put this kitten up for adoption in October. If it has long hair it has a home waiting for it from its rescuer. If it is a short hair I will find it a new home. Either way it has a safe place to grow up in.
