The Britishes

Finally, someone else gets it about modern technology and rudeness. This is one of my biggest pet peeves is that people are addicted to mobile devices. They can't carry on a normal conversation eye to eye contact because their attention is on a device . They could also be driving, walking even in the bathroom and this applies as well. I have to say College Humor hits the nail on the head.My husband found this one You Tube for me. Yup, this is how I feel about mobile devices. And I have one, but it is off most of the time. I prefer to talk to people in my presence and not a piece of plastic.

Last Saturday

Last Saturday we went to a large organic farm in Norwood, Missouri. We got a tour of the farm and got to see most of their animals. We were escorted by these guard geese.

Got to see a neat looking cow and her herd.

The neatest thing was a place to eat on the way home. There is an Amish restaurant that is solar powered. If they generate their own power they can use electricity. This was a wonderful place to eat and we got a tour of their solar set up.

Good  Norwood, MO Amish eats on Thur, Fri and Sat only.

We got home by sunset.

Henny Penny Yard

One of a pair of Welsummer roosters I have.
Very calm and very good gentlemen for my hens.

My ever growing dark Cornish hen. She is even tempered and very broody. She is not even 8 months old yet. These are becoming my favorite laying hen.

Red Ranger meat hens almost 20 weeks old.

Itius Bitius

This is "the kitten"our last foster kitten still in our care. She has had ringworm, tapeworms, ear mites, fleas, malnutrition, and failure to thrive. She is only 3 months old and barely weights a pound. Her healthy sibling was adopted and is thriving. She has grown some and is a hard keeper in the weight department. But we still have her and she acts like an older cat. She does not meow only purrs. She can climb and go up stairs, but she cannot jump. She has deformed front feet and curved front legs. Only time will tell if she will grow up into a healthy adult. But for now she is a happy little kitten.
UPDATE: She was adopted today! A happy cat lover saw my poster and wanted to see Itty Bitty. I brought her down to our local Senor Center. It was love at first sight for both of them.

New Crafting

Getting hooked on needle punch and hooked rugs. We were visiting Silver Dollar City in Branson and I got to try out these new to me crafts. Wonderful place to see and learn about crafts. Now I need to make time to sit and do.

Pumpkins Bumpkins

I finally got to grow my own pumpkins. I saved some seeds from a variety I liked last October. They grew well. The next test is the flavor. These are not perfect for carving, but I am hoping for savory cooked pumpkin pie.

And then there was one

Yesterday we delivered the last three tabby foster kittens to the shelter that gave them to us as babies. They are now healthy three month old young adult kittens. They are ready to be adopted. The only sad part is that our local no kill shelter is full of kittens and cats at this time.If you are wanting some wonderful adult cats or kittens our shelter is a great place to meet them.

This is Skull Face the last foster kitten in our care. We gave it this name as it was in poor condition and only a head with eyes when we got it. This tiny kitten can fit in your hand at two months of age. Ringworm and parasite ridden kitten bodies cannot thrive and grow. Her sibling did thrive with TLC and has been adopted. In time she will grow up and get a new home and a new name. But for now she is just Skull Face.

Death comes for a visit

I have been so busy raising 6 motherless kittens I have not had much time for myself. I have been watering all 3 veggie gardens and trying to process corn, tomatoes, and potatoes. I have almost given up the veggie garden after I found blister beetles all over the kale and collards. They are impervious to everything. And they eat everything that is green.

But today three of my hand raised kittens went to a new home. Leaving me three to take to our local no kill animal shelter. And that leaves the two new baby kittens that have issues. One died this week and the other two have to be isolated until I get them medicated for upper respiratory. They either become immune to this or they perish. It is hard to lose an animal, but is also a relief they are no longer suffering.

My sweet 10 year old Rose a Rex bunny died this week after her struggle with tumors in her lungs. Our vet said there was nothing he could do, but let her live out the rest of her life. She was not in pain, just coughed a lot. So she still got to run and play outside and be a happy rabbit. But then I was woken up by my husband at 2am in the morning, Rose had died in her cage. On the farm this means time to dig a hole or toss in the dead pile. We did not want to wildlife getting to her. So we both got outside and my husband dug a deep hole for her and buried her on the farm under the cherry tree.

And then they go

It has been almost 3 months that I have been fostering these tiny sick baby kittens.

They are now ready to leave my home and begin a new life somewhere else.

The shelter I foster for has too many kittens/cats at the moment. So we are keeping this batch a bit longer. The good news is that people are contacting me about these kittens. They are free with the promise to have them spayed or neutered. We have given these kittens a great start to a new life.

Fostering August Batch

Here are the kittens we bottle raised since June. Four sick ones and two healthy ones. All are now healthy and thriving and ready for adoption at the end of the month. They eat dry cat food and are litter trained. My job is so much easier now.

All but one are male. Could not tell until they gained weight. Even though they are from 2 different litters they all get along. It will be hard to give them up, but there are other kittens needing fostering. And these guys have had a great start.
